Number Ten Number Ten by Robin Hawdon
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

SYNOPSIS
Unknown forces attempt to assassinate radical new British Prime Minister, James Torrence. No-one knows whether they were organised by business magnates, criminal oligarchs, or jihadist extremists, all of whom are threatened by his rule. What is known is that they are getting information from inside Number Ten Downing Street. Paul Gunter, bright young member of the PM's staff, is arrested by MI5 in the middle of the night, and finds himself falsely implicated in the assassination attempt. He has to fight for his life against all involved parties, using his inside knowledge of Downing Street processes, and the reluctant help of senior staff member, Andrea Holt, to extricate himself. Will the pair survive against vastly superior forces? Will James Torrence and his fragile government endure amidst the revelations? Will love win out against political intrigue? Suspense, romance, and high action ranging across modern London's extraordinary cityscape and beyond.

                                                       BOOK REVIEW
I'll preface my comments on the book by saying that political intrigue is not necessarily my genre, but I enjoyed reading this one. The action was nonstop. If I'm up to date on current events some of the content mirrored a few world events. This is what made this story so relatable. This could actually happen. When fiction is based in a bit of reality, it makes for a much more appealing read.
I liked that Hawdon setup this fast-paced drama without taking it slow. Hawdon trusted that the reader would be able to keep up. I think the plot was well executed, which meant the story flowed well and the characters were developed. I would recommend this book to lovers of political intrigue. BOOK REVIEW
The authors delivered a story full of drama and action. I had not read part one, so I was missing a little bit of the history behind the characters, but it didn't detract from how entertaining this sequel was for me. The plot was clear and well organized. The characters were developed and had great chemistry. The action was as intense. as the drama. I read this book in one sitting, which doesn't really happen for me to often. I think the authors did a great job of pulling you into this story. The co-authors worked together so seamlessly that I'm not sure who wrote what. You can get your copy here and don't forget to support this fierce duo by leaving a review.

Me, You, & A Married Man

Me, You, & A Married Man

Me, You, & A Married Man Me, You, & A Married Man by Pledge
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

SYNOPSIS
With the recent death of her boyfriend, Registered Nurse Symone Tate has been in a slump, until she met Derrick, the most attractive man she's ever saw. Unfortunate for her, Farrah, Derrick's wife, is suffering from cancer and is in her care. As situations heat up between Derrick and Symone, she must decide whether she is going to help Farrah fight for her life or leave her to die, for Derrick,

BOOK REVIEW
This was my first read by this author. The story centers around Symone, a young nurse who recently lost the love of her life. She comes to find out that he betrayed her in the worst way while committing a similar betrayal with someone.

What worked for me was the story itself. It is one that touches home for those who have experienced betrayal by those who "love" them. Pledge does a good job of setting the scene and laying out the plot and filling it with relevant content related to adultery. I would have liked fewer grammatical errors i.e. missing words or too many words in a sentence. This really disrupted the flow of the story. I had to often go back and re-read a sentence for it to make sense, which pulled me out of the story each time.

The author did put a note at the end regarding the grammatical errors and their choice to not change anything in this novel. I can understand wanting to remain authentic, but when it translates to negative reviews hopefully the mindset will change for future works from this author.

Bookstagrammer Theresa R. of Between the Covers Literary shares her Top 5 Reads of 2019

Bookstagrammer Theresa R. of Between the Covers Literary shares her Top 5 Reads of 2019

I’m so excited to share my bookstagram journey today with you via KayBee's Bookshelf! This community has been so warm and welcoming and I appreciate so many other Bookstagrammers before me that made this all possible and for all the inspiration.

My name is Theresa, Bookstagrammer at @Betweenthecovers_literary and I have been an avid reader and writer since childhood. I remember diving into books seriously at the age of 12, where I began my urban fiction collection of novels. I remember reading Flyy Girl and being completely immersed and blown away and the rest is history. Off and On through the years, I have read mostly urban fiction, urban romance, and contemporary fiction, which also happens to be some of my favorite genres to read. I also enjoy Non-Fiction, Christian Fiction and Self-Help sprinkled in between.

When I began my bookstagram journey, I was coming out of a serious bout of depression and anxiety and reading was one of my coping skills. The more I read and immersed myself in books and literature, the better I was able to lessen the episodes of anxiety that were severe at the time. Through my reading, I stumbled upon the bookstagram community while looking for new reads and authors to broaden my spectrum and library. I soon realized that just reading and rating was doing a disservice to some amazing authors whose work was truly off the charts and I didn’t want to continue to cheat them. I started my bookstagram page in September 2018 to not only read and review new and old authors alike but to share with others the amazing books that I have read along the way. I received a warm welcome in the community and I couldn’t be happier that I’m doing something I truly love and sharing it with others.

My Top 5 Reads of 2019

5. The Wedding Date by Jasmine Guillory
I just loved this book from beginning to end, it made me feel good. I could relate to Alexa in some ways when it came to self-doubt but I’m glad she never truly gave into her feelings and allowed love to fester for Drew. I loved the chemistry between Drew and Alexa, it was sexy, refreshing and sweet. I definitely had a book hangover once I finished this read. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read an extremely charming and romantic book.

4. Put That On Everything by K.C. Mills
Now I’m a sucker for any kind of sports romance but his book here Mills didn’t hold back at all. Holt wasn’t just an amazing football player but he was rough, honest and rugged. Sutton was the perfect match for him. Their personalities complimented one another. One thing I truly loved about this book was Holt’s growth as a person despite his problematic past. I would recommend this book to all the sports romance lovers.

3. Long Shot by Kennedy Ryan
I can’t even describe how truly amazing this book was to read. Just well-rounded and developed from beginning to end. It’s definitely hard to pinpoint just a few reasons why this may have been one of the most amazing books I have ever read no exaggeration. Another amazing sports romance between Iris and August that definitely dig deep into my core and took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions. It was definitely an emotional, heart wrenching and inspiring love affair. A "love conquers" all plot that is spellbinding. I would recommend this book to anyone that’s looking for an amazing read but it’s some content that may be harder to digest for some but other than definitely Top Tier worthy.

2. Tasha Got A Baby by S. Yvonne
Let’s talk about this phenomenal read by S. Yvonne. When I tell you thank goodness I don’t wear makeup on the regular it’s a blessing because I cried through this entire book. I mean not just tears but a gut-wrenching ugly cry too. This book was so raw, relatable and the realism was off the Richter scale. From page one, it felt as though I had immersed myself in a real-life movie. S. Yvonne's writing was definitely unmatched as she wrote this book that targeted your deepest emotions from the pages. Pure written excellence. Tasha and Peppa is the squad that everyone needs on their team. Purely disgusted with the events that took place in Tasha’s life but nonetheless she was fearless and showed perseverance. I loved Qua, he showed and showed out when it counted and that was more than a blessing. I recommend this book to anyone who likes real, raw and gritty reads this book is for you.

1. Let Me Love You by Alexandria House
Hands Down the best book I’ve read in 2019. All-around and completely amazing book series. From the beginning, this book drew me in deep and wouldn’t let me go until the end. I have never smiled from the inside out so hard in my life, my face literally hurt from my kool-aid smile. The love radiated off the pages between Everett and Jo and everyone loved Nat-Nat who was completely adorable and stole my heart and Big South’s in the process. It was funny, sexy and familiar once you read about the McClain’s you automatically become family. I fell in love over and over again with every flip of the page. And as if I couldn’t get enough of Big South after I read the book the next week I listened to the audiobook. Talk about Drunk In Love I was in book hangover overload. Definitely recommended to all…If you haven’t had your fill of the McClain’s you don’t know what you’re missing.

Thank you to everyone who has inspired me to share and review my reads with them this year, I have read 300+ books from some truly amazing and talented authors and I know next year will truly be exciting. I’m looking forward to reading new authors as well as my favorites.

The Real Hoodwives of Detroit

The Real Hoodwives of Detroit

Wednesday, December 25, 2019
The Real Hoodwives of Detroit The Real Hoodwives of Detroit by India
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

SYNOPSIS
Welcome to Detroit, Michigan, home of the grittiest, illest, most hardcore, crime-infested, poverty-stricken neighborhoods in the country. It's sometimes referred to as the Murder Capital because of the huge murder rate that never ceases to surprise us, the Murder Mitten, or the Dirty Glove because of the state's shape on the US map.
Detroit is home to many scholars, rappers, athletes, and concerned citizens, but the streets belong to those in the underworld - addicts, dealers, and the women who help run the show from behind the scenes...The Real Hoodwives of Detroit! No, you won't see these ladies on any television show, but you will see them make appearances in court for their mans' hearing, or at the county jail on visiting day. You might even catch them riding shotgun, with a nine tucked in their Fendi bag, waiting to pop off and protect their men at any cost. And of course, they make appearances in the hood, 24-7, 365 days of the year.

                                                            BOOK REVIEW
This story moved very well. The characters were developed. Chloe was a standout for her treachery. Rio was a disappointment in the husband department. I enjoyed every time Nikki and Chloe met up. The author did a good job of laying out the plot and all the drama that ensued.  I am very much looking forward to the second installment. The audio production was well done and only one of the narrators didn't quite fit this story. You can get your copy below and don't forget to support the author by leaving a review.

Holidays With A Hood Boy

Holidays With A Hood Boy

Holidays With A Hood Boy Holidays With A Hood Boy by Taylor B
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

                           SYNOPSIS
Unlike most kids, Heiress Hunter grew up with an absent mother who selfishly valued her time in the streets over her kids. Leaving her daughter's fathers to pick up her slack, unfortunately for Heiress her father got lost in the throes of drug addiction forcing her to not only care for herself, but him as well. Heiress learns at an early age that she can't depend on anyone other than herself which allows her to sharpen both her abandonment and pride issues. When B.J. Harrison steps in her cross hairs while coping with his own battle with pride sparks begin to fly. They opt to focus on developing a bond throwing titles and boundaries in the wind.
When B.J. is released from jail three years later, Heiress is still angry and hurt at his absence. The same pride that brought them together now threatens to rip them apart.

                                                                  BOOK REVIEW
Short stories can be hard to pack a lot of story in them. This particular short story centered around Heiress, her sister and their male love interests.  BJ, Heiress' love interest, returned home from a prison stint. They were never a couple, but "hooked up" regularly. The other couple had a toxic relationship filled with infidelity. About 99% of the book the couples were at odds and spent no real time together, which unfortunately didn't allow for chemistry to be properly displayed between them or for either to spend the holidays with their hood boy. What was interesting however, was the mother's story.  Why did she visit the girls? Who ransacked the apartment? While I could not connect with this story, I think if you want a quick read that flows easily this may be for you. My First Time with an L.A. Savage

My First Time with an L.A. Savage

My First Time with an L.A. Savage My First Time with an L.A. Savage by Kia M.
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

SYNOPSIS
Diamond Evans isn't your typical twenty-three-year-old. At her young age, she has already graduated early from University of California at Los Angeles. Though she is considered grown in age, she isn’t viewed as an adult through the lens of her great auntie who has raised her ever since her mom neglected her. Due to her great auntie's strict rules and controlling ways, her favorite thing to do in her free time is volunteer at the homeless shelter. After all, it is the only thing she can do without her great aunt trying to dictate her life, which she does regardless. But what happens when Diamond Evans rebels by getting her first taste of freedom? She ends up at a club after being dared by her best friend, Maya. That particular night changes her life forever, in more ways than she could ever imagine.

While at Los Angeles most popular nightclub, she has an unpleasant encounter with Deaundre, who is well known in every hood and every prominent neighborhood throughout Los Angeles. Sure she has heard about plenty men of his caliber after residing in a city with significant gang history, but she has never been face-to-face with one up until now.
Deaundre is the man that all the women love to love, while all the men love to hate. All he ever cares about is his hustle, and anything other than the hustle gets no love from him. After all, his first and only love is his trap house that sits right in the heart of Crenshaw Boulevard. But after that wild night at the nightclub, does Deaundre potentially have room for a second love that the streets can’t give him?

BOOK REVIEW
This was an okay read. There were a few distracting inconsistencies. The relationship between the aunt and niece was interesting. The characters were not exactly enjoyable, but they don't necessarily have to be for the read to be interesting. The story moved quickly and had the usual drama and betrayals thrown in the mix.

She Gave Her All to the Hood’s Finest 4 She Gave Her All to the Hood’s Finest 4 by Shvonne Latrice
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

                     SYNOPSIS
In the final installment, Tony Wacko learns that the woman he thought was riding for him may have gotten off long ago. The girl he loves and thought he knew may not be who she's claimed to be all along, and the off-kilter, slightly deranged bad boy doesn't know how to take it. On top of such a disclosure, Wacko must deal with long standing enemies, one of them being the almighty law, and his ever short temper. Will he make it through with his freedom, reputation, and relationship in tact? Or will he ruin it all like what's expected of him, leaving the promising yet certified gangsta heartbroken, shunned, and behind bars?

Tony Wacko isn't the only one due for a surprise, Camarih herself gets a shock of her own after paying closer attention to those she's tried to leave in the past. Additionally she must face her love's every growing celebrity status and the many women that come along with it. Will she and Tony keep their fiery love blazing? Or will Camarih's jealousy and secret-keeping tear them apart?

The remaining couples also return, with some doing everything in their power to rekindle with their one true love, and others branching out into new romances... sort of. This is the final journey of the lives and loves of these Los Angeles natives, but it's nothing short of an envy, betrayal, and deception filled roller coaster.

                                                               BOOK REVIEW
This final installment provided some much needed closure for these troubled couples.  The author continued to develop her characters and the mini-universe in which someone like Wacko would be able to live freely. The plot moved well. The story was error free from what I recall and the content entertaining. I look forward to more from this author.

About

Recent controversy aside, a date sees a report as a tactful check. Their file was, in this moment, a succinct panther. A gondola is a cristate bail. An unfree kimberly is a drive of the mind. Authors often misinterpret the buzzard as a cocky gate, when in actuality it feels more like a printed wall.
