BLURB

His job is to drive fast. Hers is to put the brakes on him. When sparks fly, will love cross the finish line?

AJ Ryan is a publicity nightmare. After a questionable photo surfaces and his biggest sponsor threatens to pull out, the NASCAR champion admits it might be time to hit the brakes. Thankfully, his new no-nonsense image consultant knows just where to start… too bad she revs his engine so loudly he can barely think straight.

Ella Fisher’s career is a welcome distraction from her poor taste in men. Fresh off another easily avoidable heartbreak, rehabbing AJ’s career is just the diversion she needs. But when the pulse-pounding client actually listens to her advice, Ella wonders if there’s more to the man behind the hot mess.

When Ella is granted guardianship of three boisterous children under the misconception that she and AJ are a couple, AJ surprises her by going along with the charade. Before long they find themselves in a make-shift family that feels more real than pretend.

As their professional relationship takes a hard turn for the personal, a single overheard conversation could make it all go up in flames. Will Ella and AJ’s romance hit the wall, or will love take the checkered flag?

The Perfect Lap is the second standalone novel in the Racing Hearts of Serenity romance series. If you like bad boys with a heart of gold, strong women, and love stories with a new age twist, then you’ll adore Sedona Hutton’s fun, sexy tale.

Excerpt

“I bet you have a beautiful smile,” he drawled, then lowered his mouth to hers.

She should have pulled away—she didn’t know this man from Adam. But everything inside her protested. After gazing into each other’s eyes, she felt like she knew him intimately.

His lips were warm and tingly, his kiss pure perfection…and he drew back way too quickly. He blinked those deep blue eyes and gave her a lazy grin. “I knew it.” He rubbed the pad of his thumb over her lower lip. “Beautiful.”

That’s when she realized she was smiling.

He rose, and she gave him a quick once over, taking in the sexy stubble on his face, the taut muscles of his chest, his lean physique. As good old-fashioned lust rolled through her like a quick-moving thunderstorm, she silently bemoaned her situation. This was a hell of a time to have a newly implemented man-ban.

“Keep smiling.” Stuffing his hands in his pockets, he winked at her. “It suits you,” he added in that low, sexy drawl. Then he sauntered off.

Her breath caught as she spun around to gape at him. He’d just kissed her and now he was leaving? She contemplated calling him back, then reconsidered. She had other fish to fry.

Even so, she couldn’t stop herself from tracking his every move as he swaggered toward the party, his backside looking every bit as fine as the rest of him. Pressing a hand to her chest, she let out a slow exhale. Even though she was one-hundred percent committed to her man-ban, she could admit—at least to herself—that the sexy, charming stranger had intrigued her.

Your Granddaddy, My Sugar Daddy

Your Granddaddy, My Sugar Daddy

Your Granddaddy, My Sugar Daddy Your Granddaddy, My Sugar Daddy by N'Dia Rae
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Description
Your Granddaddy, My Sugar Daddy is one of the most compelling and unique African American Urban Fiction books out. With this juicy tale, your eyes will be glued until you complete the very last sentence.

Instead of college, Samira moved from the DMV to Atlanta to score a millionaire baller. After starring in music videos, she is finally chosen by one of Atlanta’s wealthiest entrepreneurs, Keenan Carmichael. But as the old adage goes, more money, more problems.

Keenan suffers from a gambling habit that is so bad that it’s put the life of Samira and their eight-year-old son Seven in harms way. Once loan sharks threaten Keenan about killing his family, he begs Samira to ask her wealthy grandfather for money, and she reluctantly agrees.

Samira travels back home and is ready to ask him for money but on the way, she links up with a childhood friend Aura Jessie.

Aura is a proud gold digger, with only one mission; milk men for all that they are worth. Just like Samira, she is dire need of cash. And she is determined to make Samira’s grandfather her next sugar daddy.

When the two friends come together they begin to race the clock to see who can get the most of out Samira’s grandfather. Their friendship is mired with backstabbing, betrayal, and deceitfulness. Dark secrets about both of them are revealed.

Book Review
Aura a well-meaning young lady, who used her looks to secure her sugar daddies is the focal point of this story. Her sister is spoiled. Her grandmother has Alzheimers and is in a nursing home run by her future sugar (grand) daddy, Hutch, and his bitter wife, Evelyn. Ther nursing home is involved in insurance scams, abuse, and murder thanks to Evelyn.
The secondary plot that involves the granddaughter of Hutch is interesting as well as the third storyline that is going on involving the DA.

The author did a good job of weaving all the elements into each other and you can see how they will culminate into one explosive ending.

HUSH HUSH by Shameek Speight
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Description
Postpartum Depression, also known as “Baby Blues”
Effects one in seven women, causing sadness, anxiety and even crying spells. Usually the symptoms decrease in the weeks after birth, but when that’s not the case, it’s a clear indication there’s some other mental issues.
Bianca Whitted was less then ecstatic initially about her pregnancy, but the love of her love convinced her he had her and their child, so she continued on with her pregnancy, looking forward to the arrival of her bundle of joy. What she didn’t count on was her child’s father doing a 360.
Struggling with a broken heart, being a new mother and Postpartum Depression, Bianca’s joy became sadness, then anger. Will she get the help she needs to save her, or will others suffer her wrath before it’s all said and done?

Book Review
This was an extreme depiction of postpartum depression. A young woman who was dating a married man who she thought would leave his wife. ( I know) He urges her to follow through with the pregnancy and then summarily dumps her.
As she is left alone to care for her child, who appears to have an extreme case of colic, she slowly begins to lose her grasp on sanity. This causes her to commit unimaginable acts.
This was quick listen with good production quality. There was no time to develop the characters or the plot as this was basically just a few scenes in a very short novella.

Virginia Templeton Stories

Virginia Templeton Stories

Virginia Templeton Stories Virginia Templeton Stories by Marsha Casper Cook
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Description
These are three short stories about Virginia Templeton that focus on her life as she makes her way through the upper class society. Virginia loves playing games with men, especially in business. Because she prefers to play the misunderstood diva men don't see the real her and that is what she enjoys more than anything else. She smiles while planning her next move which makes the read so exciting. She would like to find one man to love but just when she thinks she's found her man she realizes it's not going to happen and moves on to someone else. In her world there’s no good or bad there’s just her trying to live her life.

Book Review

This book revolved around Virginia Templeton and her lady bits. Virginia, a high strung tyrant, was married with many lovers and a short fuse. She had a rough childhood and experienced molestation during that time. While it is not stated, I am assuming it was mentioned as the reason why she grew into the heartless person she became. Unfortunately, I could not connect with this story or the characters. I am left wondering why the men that came into contact with her desired her. There was also quite a bit of redundancy and overuse of the word "f**k".

In addition to the slight echo, the narrator was not the proper choice. Virginia needed someone who could deliver the right amount of bite in the tone when she addressed those she came across. When something of note did occur, I had to rewind the story to pick up what happened previously. The narrator had a beautifully soothing voice that did not fit with this character. The story also ended as if one of the characters were mid-conversation. It was odd. Needless to say, this story was a miss for me.

EXCERPT:
The only warning she got that she was being followed was the flick of a shadow in the headlights. Before she could react, a massive golden dragon slammed down on the road in front of her about half a mile out. She almost expected the ground to shake with the force, but the act was near silent.
Dammit.
She gritted her teeth and tightened her hands on the wheel. Rather than stop, Kasia hit the gas, pushing the car to go faster. He wasn’t taking her without a fight, that was for damn sure.
The dragon’s deep golden scales glittered in the oncoming headlights. He didn’t budge. But he did growl, his tail slashing back and forth.
“Move, you scaly bastard,” she muttered.
But she didn’t let up on the pedal.
He lowered his head and let loose a growl of warning, which she responded to by stomping harder on the gas.
“Get out of the way!”
She had no intention of playing chicken. If he didn’t, she’d ram this car down his fire-breathing throat. The hell with it. She didn’t want to go back to that cabin in Alaska anyway. Maul would miss her, but he’d be the only one.
Only the dragon didn’t move. Okay then. Kasia braced for impact.
At the moment she should’ve slammed into him, the beast heaved himself into the air, and she zoomed past, fishtailing underneath him from the force of the wind his wings caused.
He must’ve backed up, because he landed on the road in front of her again.
“You want another go, you oversized flying iguana?” she shouted, and bore down on him.
And again, he hopped out of her way only to land in her path.
Damn. Kasia held in a scream of fear-tinged frustration. They could keep this up all night, getting them nowhere fast. He wasn’t going to let her go.
With a growl of aggravation, though not defeat, Kasia stomped on the brakes. The tires squealed in protest, and the unpleasant odor of burning rubber followed her as she skidded the car to a stop broadside of the dragon, only a few feet away. If she rolled down her window, she could reach out and touch him.
The terrifying creature moved around the car, his movements more of a glide, like golden water flowing around her. He lowered his head to gaze in at her with an eye the size of her entire thigh. He snorted, and smoke trailed from his nostrils as he glared at her.
Please let this be Brand, and not some other phoenix-stealing dragon shifter.
Kasia glared back but raised her hands off the steering wheel in a gesture of surrender.

Book Review

The usual grammatical errors, but I could not figure out what a word should be in a sentence when used incorrectly or completely misspelled. I struggled to get through this book. The personality changes that seemingly came out of left field for some of the players left me confused and re-reading passages as if I missed something. This story was not fluid. I applaud the author for what she has done and putting herself out there for the world to experience. This book just wasn't for me.

Sleeping With the Devil Series

Sleeping With the Devil Sleeping With the Devil by Nicolet Martin-Hill
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

                                     Description
Have you ever wondered if the man or woman you're sleeping with really has your best interest at heart?
Natalie thought Damian hung the moon, stars and everything above.
He was her everything, her provider, her protector, her lover, her husband. Damian hid his true intentions very well. What Natalie thought was innocent competitiveness was nothing more than pure hatred.
What happens when his truths are revealed? How much pain and heartache will Natalie endure before she finds out she's been sleeping with the Devil?
Book Review
Book 1-
I listened to this book on audio. The characters and plot were a little underdeveloped. I was looking for some excitement or drama, The potential is there and I'm hoping that book two delivers it. The pain that is promised by Damien's actions will make a lasting impact on Natalie's life. I am hoping the redundancy is lessened in the next installment.
Book 2-
This edition had really good movement and content.  Karma was busy handout payback to all those villains in book 1. This installment also had minimal errors, good formatting, character development and action.
Book 3-
The finale was what you would hope for from this series. Retribution, secrets revealed, murder, suicide all came together in a believable ending. Great job!

Guilty Pleasures: Sometimes It Feels Good to be Bad

Guilty Pleasures: Sometimes It Feels Good to be Bad

Guilty Pleasures: Sometimes It Feels Good to be Bad Guilty Pleasures: Sometimes It Feels Good to be Bad by Marsha Casper Cook
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Description
This is a short Novella about Lilly Peters who was a doctor by day and an escort by night. She was on her own at a very young age and had to put herself through Medical school, but when her grandmother took ill she needed money for her care. She had heard through the hospital Intern grapevine about being an escort for very rich influential men and jumped at the chance. What she didn’t know was how much she would enjoy having sex for money.

Everything was going at an easy pace when some of the other escorts were roughed up pretty bad and no one seemed to why. She needed to find the answer. As things got worse and one of her favorite lovers was murdered she had to make a choice. Was it all worth it or was she sorry she became an escort? Did she fall too fast for men she barely new?

                                                                                              Book Review
Note: I'll preface my comments by stating that had I read this book instead of listening, my rating and comments may have been different.

A young medical resident who lives in Chicago and turns to the escort business to make ends meet. She is also responsible for her grandmother's care and needs the extra finances.
The premise was full of potential. However, I could not manage to get into the story until the last hour of the listen.

The first 45 minutes was the setup and added little value for me to the story. What should have been thrilling and intriguing, the 3 escorts being mutilated and a couple of murders, was mentioned with little fanfare. I think the story lacked the necessary tension to make this sexy or intriguing. Elizabeth's character was the most interesting and her downfall was delicious, but the delivery dampened both.

My less than enthusiastic interest was due in large part to the narration. While the narrator's voice was soothing and clear, it was not the best choice for a tale that needed to be sexy and intriguing. I also found it odd that it was set in Chicago and all were Chicago natives presumably, but the narration was delivered with an English accent that caused me to lose focus. The right narrator can make or break a book.

Description

Finding comfort in her best friend, Trina, she slowly makes her way out of the black hole she unexpectedly, fell in.

Living a fast life, he makes some pretty fast decisions, leaving him to deal with circumstances he's nowhere near prepared for, but as the saying goes, real niggas don't fold.

Book Review
This was an okay read. My first by this author I believe. The characters were developed. The drama aplenty as were the grammatical errors. The errors were enough to be distracting. The story moved at a moderate pace and had flowed fairly well.  It feels, however, as if the story was incomplete. Maybe it was because of the ending with Vita stating she was alone after a visit from those involved in her storyline. I'm not sure. I think Jaceon and Mel were together at the end. It was kind of glossed over for me so again I'm not sure. The characters a few got their HEA, but I'm not sure why it feels incomplete.

Book Review
I was expecting a psychological thriller just as the title suggests. This was more of a wrong place, wrong time situation, and reincarnation. I am hoping that part 2 will fulfill what the title and summary suggest.  The listening time is 3:58. I am at the 2:51 mark and have yet to see any evidence of the complex killer (Wheeler) or the female lead (Jenny) being assaulted by horrific snippets. Although, Bob being a jerk was the one thing that stood out. I listened to this book on Audible. The narrator did a good job.

Book Review
This story has the potential to be a good start to a new series or at the very least have a sequel generated. Sunshine's tales were entertaining. I enjoyed her recounting how she ensnared men with their own lustful vices. The characters were interesting, even the unexpected bad guy. The story was well-structured. The story was sprinkled with violence, lust, and drama. What's next for sunshine?

This book started strong and ending the same way. The author never allowed the story to have a lull. She delivered interesting characters and situation that can only develop from here. Good structure, good plot and very strong characters

book 2

Fire read 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

These characters had me totally entranced! I fell in love with Biz and the way he loved Lani. So savage yet so sweet but only with her. Pharoah just played himself all the time. Smh. Major exudes power and the way Queen did him ....betrayal is an awful thing. I can hardly wait for book 3! SHAYE B .... YOU DID THAT!

Book Review
I have to say I really enjoyed this story. The characters were developed. The plot was interesting. The supporting cast was colorful. It moved rather quickly but held my interest from start to finish. It was interesting to see Mikyla put her plan in motion to get revenge on those who wronged her. I am curious to see if and how this will or could backfire on her. I am very much looking forward to part two.

Book Review
This was an entertaining tale of betrayal and its repercussions. A Pastor began having an affair with a parishioner. His wife was also an alcoholic with insecurities and a short fuse. His teen daughter met her boyfriend when she was a pre-teen and didn't have any love for her mother.
There was drama upon drama in this story. A kidnapping, statutory rape, amnesia, and mental illness.
When the mistress of the Pastor begins to devise a plan to become the First Lady, she sets in motion a set of events that would change the lives of everyone involved. The story moved quickly. The characters were developed. There were a few errors in the way of sentence flow and the confusion of the teen's age when she met her 19yr old boyfriend. Was she 11 or 13?

Book Review
The story had almost a chaotic feel to it. I was baffled on more than one occasion at a reaction that didn't seem to quite fit. That being said, I didn't realize until the end that it was a spinoff or continuation (update) of Incarcerating the heart of a savage of which I read book one a while back. So this review may be updated once I refresh my memory on book one and read book two.

About

Recent controversy aside, a date sees a report as a tactful check. Their file was, in this moment, a succinct panther. A gondola is a cristate bail. An unfree kimberly is a drive of the mind. Authors often misinterpret the buzzard as a cocky gate, when in actuality it feels more like a printed wall.
